    Description

Early Glass Fountain Pen Desk Set Possibly John Holland or Diamond Point
    with Monogram Pen
This clear glass desk base measures 3.75 inches square and has small chips on three of the four corners but is generally in good condition. The pen holder is of an unusual design with a flared top suggesting it dates from about 1926 or 27. The swivel has two green plastic knobs that can be used to tighten or loosen the holder. The green-knob design was used by John Holland suggesting this was the maker. However, the black round, sloped base of the holder is a design used on some Diamond Point sets. So, it is speculative as to maker but the slim line of the holder makes the set attractive. I have added a Monogram desk pen, sold at Rexall Drug Stores and made by National Pen Co. of Chicago. The pen is not original to the base. The jade-green pen is somewhat stained but otherwise is in good condition. The nib is labeled "Everlasting' with the imprinted letter M. The nib appears to be 14K but is not so marked. It may be a heavy gold-plated nib and has a medium point. The lever-fill pen has been restored with a new pen sac.
