Description
For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1928 Carter's Oversize Fountain Pen Model #10117 in this clean and scarce Coral Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned, put back together, and is now in wonderful writing condition. The color is exceptional and this is a Holy Grail for Carter's collectors.I have cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the rubber sac with a new silicone sac to protect the color of the celluloid. Hand polished the gold-filled Carter's rocker clip, lever arm, and 2-ring barrel banding. Cleaned, Buffed, and Polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of the fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Carter's Fountain Pen is an Oversize model that measures 5 3/8" inches capped and 7 1/8" posted.
The fountain pen cap and barrel are in exceptional condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. This Coral color is vibrant and displays nearly like the day it left the factory - brilliant and clean coral coloring! The clip on the cap displays brightly with no gold-filled loss. The 2-Ring Cap Banding displays brightly as well, again with no gold-filled loss. The gold-filled lever is very clean, displays bright gold-filled color, and is free from any wear or brassing. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel.
I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and smoothly.
This Carter's INX NIB is an enormous 14K Nib and generates a great writing experience. The actual writing portion of the 14K Carter Inx NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .56mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with an extra-fine to double broad stroke line. In the writing sample provided, the extra-fine line measures at .44mm and the double broad measures 1.30mm when measured with digital calipers. The Carter Nib writes smoothly, a pleasure to write with. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.
Carter was a well-known maker of fountain pen ink, but made fountain pens only for a few years, from the mid-1920s to around the early 1930s. It offered very high-quality pens, highly sought today by those who want top-tier pens by small makers.
This vintage Carter's Fountain Pen is a very clean and scarce example of the Oversize coral pattern. Carter's made fountain pens from 1924 to 1932 I would consider this Carter to easily grade in Excellent+ Condition and boarding on Near Mint. It is a collector grade that one will rarely find the opportunity to own. It is ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.

Please Read Carefully Before Bidding:
I strive to find unique and difficult to find pieces that I believe will capture the attention of collectors. I spend a great deal of time traveling, talking with people, sitting at auctions and waiting in line at estate sales to find these pieces. Some of the items are "farm fresh" and some I have had in my possession for years and time to let others enjoy. Please make sure this item is what you want before bidding. If you would like different pictures or have concerns about damage, on whether it is repainted or repaired ask before bidding. If I can find out, I will. These are antiques so expect them not to be "perfect".
