Bokashi-nuri is a technique of blending different colors of lacquer. Since lacquer is very sticky, it requires a very high level of skill to create subtle shades of color. Since the lacquer is applied by hand, each piece of lacquerware has its own unique look.
There are four types of Yume fountain pens with red and black Urushi lacquer to represent sunset, sunrise, solar eclipse, and lunar eclipse.
These are finished by skilled craftsmen in Wajima, the birthplace of Japanese lacquer, using the advanced technique of bokashi-nuri.
